Juan Díaz de Solís

Juan Díaz de Solís was born in Portugal in 1470 (Biography: Juan Díaz de Solís). He grew up around sailing and later became to be a very skilled pilot.

Like many other countries, Spain wanted to explore the Americas. Spain sent Juan Díaz de Solís. He was an expert sailor and he was he was also a chief pilot in the Spanish navy at the time (Juan Díaz de Solís). His first voyage was to explore the Spice Islands (Biography: Juan Díaz de Solís).

On his last voyage in 1515, he was sent to find a passage through South America to the Pacific Ocean (Biography: South America). When he arrived at the Río de la Plata, he encountered the Charrúa Indians. Once the Indians saw him, they attacked and killed him and his men (Uruguay).
